Drug Dependency and Rehabilitation

My aunt really had a tough time with one of her sons. At first she was afraid to confront him though she really felt that something strange is going on. She started noticing her son’s attitude and behavior change unconstructively and was really convinced at that time that her son was experimenting with either alcohol or drugs. Scared that she might hurt her son if she’ll confront him, she failed to address the matter until she receive a call from the school that her son has been missing school and is failing in most of his class.

Her son has been dependent to drugs and worst before she knew it her precious one has turned alcoholic. Without her knowledge her son sneaks out at night for some alcohol. This was the time that they finally took an action of sending their son to the best drug rehabilitation centers to save him from the wrong lifestyle that he is becoming accustomed. He has got a long-term rehabilitation and was sent to an institution away from home and from his friends.

Every time I think of what my cousin went through when he was dealing with his drug and alcohol dependence I get sick to my stomach; he looked horrible and all sunken in and skinny. Good thing he has gotten into a Native American rehab and realized that his life before drug and alcohol dependence was a happy one and that drugs and alcohol has changed him differently. So far things turned out right for my cousin. He has been rehabilitated and has turned away from drugs and alcohol even before it took a toll on him. Drug and alcohol abuse is not an uncomplicated fix, but it isn’t a terminal disease that you have to live with perpetually. If you find the right drug and alcohol treatment center, a person’s life, choices and actions can be turned around. After all, drug dependence and alcoholism is just a choice.

 

Wind Deflector

My husband is really into cars, and car accessories. Whenever we pass by an auto shop, whether new or used cars he teaches me specifics that a buyer should be looking for when looking for a car. So, there it is, he taught me about car accessories; Rims, tires, mats, spoilers, cargo liners, wind deflector and all. He also taught me what those accessories are for.  I then learned to appreciate them for what I thought was that those accessories were only installed to add beauty. Now I knew that they add protection and comfort while you are driving.

Take for example the Wind deflectors which are typically attached to the front hood, sunroof, and window areas of a car. I thought they were installed to just for the purpose of accessorizing to add beauty until my husband told me their importance. Deflectors were generally designed to prevent rushing air to enter your vehicle when certain parts of the car are meant to be open. Deflectors attached to the front hood in general guard a vehicle from damage due to flying debris.  Deflectors for car windows and sunroofs are installed to fit over a small portion of the area exposed by the open window. The deflector allows fresh air to enter the cabin, while serving as snow or rain guards at the same time. Wind and rain deflector could be a minor car accessory but provides so much benefit. A large benefit of a wind deflector is that it can reduce the frequency of air conditioner use, resulting in increased gas mileage, because occupants are able to open the windows for ventilation.

Pointers for Exercise

Here are some points the Athletic Institute of Chicago recommends that you follow in exercise:

1. The time to exercise is when you think you are too busy for it.

2. Select a sport that compensates for the excessive demands of your occupation.

3. Be moderate, avoid overdoing and overstrain.   

4. Engage in more than one favorite sport so that more muscles are used and some muscles not overworked.

How much exercise? A good guide for judging the amount is what the physical educators all call “recovery ability.” In activity, both the breathing and heart rate speed up, but ten minutes after you stop, both should get back very nearly to their rate before you begin the exercise. If following a two-hour rest you still fell weak, you have overexerted for your present condition. None of this means to stop exercising: it simply means you must start more slowly.

The following exercises were designed by the American Medical Association for adults. They are scientifically sound and the product of years of study. Used daily, they will help to increase organic vigor, muscular strength, body suppleness, and motor reaction. Do them correctly, vigorously, and in good posture. If you have not been exercising, in the beginning repeat each exercise the minimum number of times, then gradually increase counts to maximum. Ten minutes of your time everyday can pay big dividend in good health.

Hiring Local Movers

Moving is not an easy task, there are so much things to consider; things to be concern about. I live in a dormitory when I was still studying in the university.  I have moved from one dormitory to another perhaps about 3 times and believe me though I have very few things I really find it hard to move; I have to request my friends to help me move things and I watch over my things to make sure that they don’t get scratches.

Same as true with moving from one city to another, there will be so much to be concerned of. First you have to look for a better house or apartment to live. After finding a place to live, you have to plan when to move and how to move. It would be real arduous and time consuming if you will be on your own move things out. Well packing thing may not be as hard as transporting them to your new place especially if you move as a family and you only have a pick up truck and of course have a lot of things to move, you have to travel back and forth transporting your things. How about having a moving help? Well, yes hiring local movers will not hurt as it’s not very expensive. Movers help not only in transporting your stuffs, but also in packing them. Other than that, with the help of these well trained local movers, you can be assured that your things are taken cared of and secured.

Baby Shower Gifts

A friend of mine waited for years to have a baby. Countless visits to different doctors were made to obtain medications just to be sure that they will have one, until finally their dream come true and she is soon to deliver her first baby. It’s a baby boy and everybody is excited, a baby shower plan is pulled ahead to celebrate this precious one and their becoming a family.

We then help her prepare the baby’s room. For the baby shower, we started with a list of important people to invite. We also contact some of our closest friends who live quite distant to join and celebrate the party. We sent them personalized invitation cards and we were glad that they confirm to come. This party is special and is going to be full of excitement.  

As one of her closest friend and soon the baby’s godmother I want her to feel that I care and I am happy for her and her first precious baby. So way ahead I thought of wonderful surprises that I could possibly come up to. I decide to shop at an online baby store. It has to be unique, so I have to come up with personalized baby gifts. Shopping online is great; I came across with best baby shower gifts and I now know what to give for her little boy.

Purchasing the item online is very comfortable for me.  There is so much time to shop and a lot of variety of gift item to choose from, all for the baby and my friend. I also check for the online store’s reliability to be sure that the item will arrive at the specific time. So much for that it also saves a lot of money and time.

Remarkably Durable

My husband’s family lines are merchants. Accordingly, his uncle started making his fortune by selling table salts, then eggs, rice, and some other consumable goods. Years after he started buy and sell business. They buy copra from local farmers and get to sell/deliver about 2 to 3 truckloads of copra to oil companies every week, which make their family rich.  

There was a time when they almost lost everything that they worked hard for, for years; that was their storage building caught fire. Good enough fire fighters came quickly to the rescue and that the disaster did not create much damage.  That same month they built a storage made of steel and concrete.

I can say that I and my husband are really destined to be together. My husband grew up with much knowledge on copra business and I on the other hand work in a company that exports copra. These things that came common in us made us think of venturing into copra buying business. We thought of starting the business in the province near our farm. I told my husband that we will build a small wooden or concrete storage building where we can keep the goods. My husband disagrees with my idea. He told me that if ever  we will push through with the plan he would build a much durable storage a steel building; which I understand because he is looking after the security of the goods since steel building is safe from thief, fire  resistant, maintenance free and  aside from the fact that it does not rot, it is also amazingly affordable. Well, that sounds like a remarkably durable plan.

Break the Addiction

Here are some ideas to help you break your addiction to multitasking and start getting tasks done more effectively:

Keep your cellphone turned off. Only se it to make outgoing calls.

Set priorities. Rather than just having a list of to-dos, figure out what time periods during the day you are dedicating to working on a specific item.

Live in the moment. You’ll be happier and more connected. Think about what you taste, feel touch and hear right now.

Keep a journal. Journaling can help ease the stress of being overworked. You have to take time to focus on the writing, and it slows you down. It’s OK to talk about how frazzled you feel in the journal.

 

Roadside Assistance Program

Six years back, I and my brother visited uncle who was then the town Mayor. Being a businessman he owns several vehicles, and being a public servant he gets to met a lot of people everyday asking for help or any for of assistance. One of their less fortunate neighbors was very sick. The man suffered from an unexplained illness for 4 years. They heard of a group of German medical experts who were doing a medical mission at a quite distant mountainous area and they asked for my uncle’s assistance for them to get to the place. My uncle provided them a vehicle and asked brother to go with them so the driver would have a reliever in case he gets tired driving. They leave early morning and of course we expect them to be back in the evening. Night came and we were worried that they did not come back. We waited until late night and we receive my brother’s call informing us that they were stuck in the midst of the mountain because the car broke on their way home. It was such an ordeal, they do not have foods, and if my uncle would come or would send somebody for the rescue, he will have to send the rescue or he will leave early in the morning and miss a very important appointment that day.  Well, my uncle indeed sends another vehicle to rescue them. The driver called in the afternoon informing that they them and that they were on their way home but now with a little problem; they are stuck in a muddy ditch a kilometer from the highway, worst was they run out of diesel. Uncle was in an important meeting those times so they waited until evening. That incident triggered uncle to get a roadside assistance club. Such incident did not happen again. Uncle’s roadside assistance program covers my uncle’s entire vehicle.

Diet of the Preschool Child

Parents who are most careful about the health of their babies tend to become neglectful after babyhood is past and the children reach preschool age. And yet, it is during this period that the basis is laid for later health and efficiency in their mental and physical life. These children need health care as much as do babies. The preschool year, which is from two to six years, cover the period when many children’s diseases tend to manifest themselves. This is also a time of rapid physical and mental growth. So to be resistant to disease in later life, the child must be well-nourished during this period.

At about the age of two years a child becomes more or less independent and will often express his or her likes and dislikes in an emphatic manner. At this time it is most important that the child not be allowed to drift into bad eating habits. Bad eating habits result in malnutrition.

A child who learns to eat wholesome food makes the best start in life.

Certain fundamental principles must be observed regarding the diet. An adequate diet must contain, in suitable amounts, tissue-building materials known as protein, minerals, carbohydrates, fat and the necessary accessory substances known as vitamins.

A child carefully receive everyday at least one food from each of the following food groups – protein food, energy food, vitamins and mineral food.    

The Mystery of Slumber

Why do we sleep? For many years scientists thought the brain lapsed from wakefulness because of a lack of sensory stimulation. They saw sleep as a passive phenomenon during which major elements of the brain rested: the cerebral cortex, site of thought, speech, planning, and other high functions; the cerebellum, which coordinates our movements; the visual cortex, which processes neural signals from the eyes into images.

Experiments in the 1940s suggested that the brain itself actively generates sleep. When certain areas of the brain were stimulated by an electric current, sleep ensued. The discovery of rapid eye movement sleep in 1951 gave further evidence of a sleep-active brain. Then scientists identified specific populations of neurons in the pons and medulla of the brain stem that directly affect REM sleep.

Though it is now agreed that sleep is an active phenomenon influenced by particular neurons, the bewildering complexity of the brain continues to prompt debate on the precise location of the neurons and how they interact. Neurons communicate with one another through chemicals called neurotransmitters. Millions of such interactions are necessary for you to read this sentence.

“Sleep may not be the result of one or even of several discrete sleep centers,” says Dr. Wallace B. Mendelson, a sleep specialist at the State of University of New York at Stony Brook. “Possibly it results from the complex interaction of sleep-generating neurons with neurons that control such other aspects of physiology as respiration and blood pressure.

The ultimate question may not be what turns neurons on, but why. Some theories: By lowering the body’s thermostat, sleep conserves energy. REM sleep may also facilitate learning or brain development or reinforce individual behavior patterns.
