In a world where tomorrow’s discovery makes yesterday’s breakthrough obsolete, parents cannot help wondering as they watch their children careening into the future.

If society maintains its present rate of change, what will their children’s world be like twenty years from now? As traditional values continue to break down, what rules will guide their children as they face challenges yet undreamed of? And as they stand on the threshold of an uncertain future, what should parents do to help them prepare?

Parents should accept as natural their concern about the future of their offspring. It is doubtless prompted by a fervent hope that today’s children develop into tomorrow’s happy and successful adults. But parents can do more than just wonder. They can teach their children a simple goal-setting process that shows them how to achieve success and how to reap the many bonuses that accompany success.

The ability to set and attain realistic goals has far-reaching implications. Because success is the ultimate confidence-builder, the child who establishes goals and works to achieve them reaps the invaluable benefit of greater self-esteem. Each successive achievement generates the momentum to set and attain newer and more challenging goals.

The process is gloriously self-reinforcing. Each success brings a wealth of positive reactions from others, and each compliment or pat on the back contributes to a child’s belief in himself. The end product is a child who grows more confident and secure with each new achievement. And a secure, confident child is far better equipped to deal with the occasional disappointments and losses that are an inevitable part of life.

Goal-setting can be taught to elementary school children and refined to meet their changing needs as they move on to high school. Considering a child’s developmental timetable, 8 years of age is an ideal time for parents to introduce the goal-setting process. The typical 8-year-old is beginning to grasp the concept of cause and effect, and will be capable of understanding that certain desired actions may lead to certain desired ends. In addition to being intellectually ready, the 8-year-old’s differentiation between fantasy and reality has become more firmly established. This enables the child to choose goals that are more realistic and attainable than those a younger child might select.

It was Monday and the first day of school. I send my 10 year old niece to school. I saw the glow on all students’ faces, they were just so excited to meet their friends and their minds are focused for the study. As soon as the children get into their respective classrooms, we the parents were toured around the school, so we were able to see all their facilities. The facilities were not bad. We were not disappointed though but we take note of the things that would like to change or improve since the school principal asks for it. Well, yes inside us we feel like something has to be improved.

So during the Parents and Teachers meeting we tackle the things to be improved and among them are to put additional school furniture such as study carrels, and book cases in the library for the student to be able to focus on their reading and studies. Also we suggested that the Science laboratory furniture be replaced with much durable furniture. The parents and teachers worked hand in hand raised funds and in two months the library and Science laboratory looked a lot better with the new furniture.

My aunt really had a tough time with one of her sons. At first she was afraid to confront him though she really felt that something strange is going on. She started noticing her son’s attitude and behavior change unconstructively and was really convinced at that time that her son was experimenting with either alcohol or drugs. Scared that she might hurt her son if she’ll confront him, she failed to address the matter until she receive a call from the school that her son has been missing school and is failing in most of his class.

Her son has been dependent to drugs and worst before she knew it her precious one has turned alcoholic. Without her knowledge her son sneaks out at night for some alcohol. This was the time that they finally took an action of sending their son to the best drug rehabilitation centers to save him from the wrong lifestyle that he is becoming accustomed. He has got a long-term rehabilitation and was sent to an institution away from home and from his friends.

Every time I think of what my cousin went through when he was dealing with his drug and alcohol dependence I get sick to my stomach; he looked horrible and all sunken in and skinny. Good thing he has gotten into a Native American rehab and realized that his life before drug and alcohol dependence was a happy one and that drugs and alcohol has changed him differently. So far things turned out right for my cousin. He has been rehabilitated and has turned away from drugs and alcohol even before it took a toll on him. Drug and alcohol abuse is not an uncomplicated fix, but it isn’t a terminal disease that you have to live with perpetually. If you find the right drug and alcohol treatment center, a person’s life, choices and actions can be turned around. After all, drug dependence and alcoholism is just a choice.

People working in industries can be at risk to different kinds of illness. That is why each industry must set safety guidelines or standards to secure their worker’s health. Each individual is has their human rights and so in situations wherein the worker finds that he or she developed a life threatening illness due to company’s deficiency in disseminating and facilitating safety, he or she may file complaints and claims against the company.

Industry workers such as mechanics, plumbers, shipyard workers, factory workers, and those workers handling insulation installation among many others are workers at risk to asbestos exposure. These workers may develop Mesothelioma. Malignant Mesothelioma is a rare type of cancer that occurs in the thin layer of cells lining the body’s internal organs, known as the mesothelium. The only known cause of mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos, while other factors such as smoking can make the disease more or less likely in some individuals. Family members of industry workers can also be at risk due to second-hand exposure to asbestos clinging on work clothes. Industrial employees were usually subjected to asbestos exposure on the job, as the material was widely used all through the 20th century. Few of these workers knew they were being exposed to asbestos, however, despite the fact that many manufacturers were aware the material was hazardous. Those who believe they may have been exposed to asbestos and that their misfortune is caused by the company’s failure to facilitate safety may file claims and get help from a Mesothelioma lawyer. If you lost a loved one to an asbestos-related infirmity, you may be able to stand for them posthumously. For guidance you may arrange meetings with several attorney and figure out your options.

Obesity is one major health problem in our society. The problem of childhood obesity in the United States has grown considerably in recent years. Obesity is among the easiest medical conditions to recognize but most difficult to treat. This unhealthy weight gain due to poor diet and lack of exercise is responsible for over numerous deaths each year. Overweight children are much more likely to become overweight adults unless they adopt and maintain healthier patterns of eating and exercise.

Children of today’s generation need guidance. Kids as young as 3 years old already know how to play computer games and they usually get addicted to it as they play each day. As a result they get them selves engrossed to computer games, eat improperly, and gain unhealthy weight because of little physical activity. It is of these reasons why we need to get our children to enroll in physical education program such as Spark PE.

When we send our kids to school that is approved with PEP Grant 2010. We have to make sure that they get themselves involved in Physical Education. Let us get them to a school which avails of research-based organizations that disseminates evidence-based Physical Education, After School, Early Childhood, and Coordinated School Health program to teachers and recreation leaders. With that we can be assured that our kids learn how to keep themselves healthy and would put whatever they learn into practice.

Choose to practice being happy. Remind yourself that your are a happy person. Identify yourself to others as being a happy individual. Smile often. Greet friends with warmth and strangers with kindness. Practice giving thanks daily and even hourly for the many happinesses that are yours, such as the gift of being alive, watching the sun rise, living in a comfortable dwelling place, completing a demanding project, enjoying the love of family and friends, having a work that provides you with financial resources, and so forth. Remember that happiness is not the attainment of what you want but the realization of how much you already have.

Choose to make someone else happy. “The joy that you give to others is the joy that come back to you,” wrote poet John Greenleaf Whittier. Behind that statement is this simple but profound truth. Our happiness is magnified when we got out of our way to make someone else happy.

Choose to examine your expectations. “Many people are chronically unhappy because their expectations are unrealistic,” says Dr. Bobbi Sommer, author of Psycho-Cybernetics 2000. Don’t delude yourself that youcan ward off unhappiness in all situations all the time. There’s no such thing as permanent, uninterrupted happiness. The important thing is to learn to accept setbacks without thinking of them as permanent conditions.”

Your family may going out for shopping, or for a picnic, or for an appointment. Traveling with a baby or with little kids on board a car be a safe and pleasant experience if you consider the following tips:

Wear a seat belt and ask all passengers to do the same.

Do not use any substitute infant seat or ordinary travel bed for a car seat.

Do not allow two children or a parent and a child to use only one seat belt.

Never let the baby ride in your arms while the car is moving.

Avoid the temptation not to place the baby in a car seat “because we’re traveling only a few blocks.”

Do not leave the rear door of the car open. This lets in exhaust fumes. Also, dangerous objects may come through the open door in a crash.

Do not allow children to play with sharp objects or metals while the car is moving. These objects may accidentally hit them if the car suddenly stops.

Put loose objects inside the car trunk.

A pregnant mother should especially use a seat belt. Until her child is born, she is the baby’s “car seat.” The lap belt must be kept below her uterus, across the pelvic bone, to avoid injury to the baby from the seat belt.

Bring along musical tapes and play them right after buckling the baby in.

Bring along nonchokable snacks like rice cakes or bread. Do not allow kids to suck on lollipops or popsicles or anything with a stick. A swerve or an accident could ram the stick into the kids’ throats.

When driving long distances, make frequent pit stops.

They spent a couple days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. As they were returning home, the father asked the boy, “How was the trip?”

“It was great, Dad.”

“Did you see how poor people can be?”

“Oh, yeah.”

“So what did you learn from the trip?”

The boy said, “I saw that we have one dog, and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our yard, and they have a creek that ahs no end. At night we imported lanterns, and they have the stars.

“Our patio reaches to the front yard, and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on, and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.

“We buy our foods, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us. They have friends to protect them. “

Then the boy added, Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are!”

Too many times we forget what we have and concentrate on what we don’t have. One person’s worthless object is another’s prized possession. It’s all based on one’s perspective. Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks to God for all the bounty He has provided instead of worrying about wanting more.
